At their meeting in November, the SCLP State Committee unanimously approved proposing a bill to the SC General Assembly that would add “No Candidate”, to any ballot in the state in which there is only one candidate running unopposed. The LP believes that None of the Above, or “NOTA”, should always be included as an option for any voter who disapproves of all available candidates, and the very many elections in South Carolina where candidates run unopposed–leaving voters without even the abysmal choice of the lesser of two evils, are an opportunity to start phasing in such a system. As proposed in the bill, any election in which “No Candidate” wins will be held again, with the losing candidate ineligible to run.
